About
Nearly 3 years ago I walked into the doctor’s office for a work physical
where I was met by a very petite straight forward doctor whom uttered
the words no one had ever said to me; “you are morbidly obese” I did
your typical crying feeling sorry for myself etc. But once I had
finished my pity party I decided I needed to do something about it. A
couple days went by and I joined Anytime Fitness where
I went late at night and used the elliptical for an hour. A couple
days after that I joined an online calorie counting community called
Myfitnesspal. A couple of months went by and I had dropped over 40
pounds then I hit a plateau. My sister suggested I start running, and
that first treadmill session was terrible. I ran for 7 minutes walked
for 3 for nearly an hour then I vomited. I didn’t see that gym for 3
days. But I was determined so I kept at it. I watched a TV show where a
girl had ran a 5k and I thought, I want to do that. So I signed up for
our local Saint Patrick ’s Day 5k and finished with a time of 29:45
which I was extremely proud of. I had then caught the bug I signed up
for a 5 miler and a half marathon and then less than a year and a half
after running my first race I ran my first full marathon. It was going
great until I hit mile 22-23 when I felt a massive pain in my knee which
forced me to walk nearly the rest of the race. It took tears and anger
and a wonderful supportive husband who walked the last mile with me to
get me to that finish line but I finished. I later found out that I had
torn my meniscus and it forced me to be out of running for 8 months.
When I was finally able to get back into it I was so depressed my first
5k back was over 31 minutes. I had gained 15 pounds back and had slowed
a lot. But I was not giving up I signed up for a bunch more 5k’s, ran 2
half marathons in 2 weeks and officially became a Half Fanatic!. I
love to run in my underarmour spring and fall running jacket and have
been recognized by many as "hey you’re pink running jacket!"
